Police in Nizamabad have successfully recovered 33 mobile phones that were reported lost and returned them to the respective owners on Friday.
According to Town-1 Police Station Inspector B. Raghupati, members of the public are advised to file complaints immediately on the central government's CEIR portal when their mobile phones are lost.
He noted that there have been incidents of illegal money transfers through UPI apps such as PhonePe and Google Pay following the loss of mobile phones, urging citizens to be more vigilant.
The inspector emphasized the importance of using strong passwords, PINs, or pattern locks for mobile phone security. He recommended setting up a strong PIN in addition to fingerprint or face unlock features.
He also advised users to block their SIM cards, banking services, and UPI accounts immediately after reporting their lost mobile phones on the CEIR portal.
